A Study on the Interrelationship Between the Growth and the Urinary Hydroxyproline Relating Indices in the Pro-school and School-aged Children

Abstract
For the purpose of obtaining the available index which can be used to estimate the growth and development of children, the author investigated urinary hydroxyproline excretion amount, urinary hydroxyproline / creatinine ratio and hydroxyproline index of 1,622 children(male 829, female 739) who residing in Pusan area.
The summarized results were as follows
1. The annual average growth of height revealed higher level in the 3-5 years old group than in the 6-11 years old group. And in the rare of weight, the values of the late group revealed higher level than the former group. The crossed period of growth curve between the both sex were the 9-10 years old in height and the 10-11 years old in weight.
2. The urinary hydroxyproline excretion amount and the hydroxyproline index revealed increasing tendency with the age. And the urinary hydroxyproline / creatinine ratio was decreased sharply up to the 6-7 years old, however, no apparent change of values was shown in the elder group.
3. The most appropriate estimative index on the annual average growth of height and weight were the urinary hydroxyproline / creatinine ratio in the 3-5 years old group and the hydroxyproline index in the 6-11 years old group.
